Competent Persons Schemes were introduced by the Government to allow individuals and enterprises to self-certify that their work complies with Building Regulations as an alternative to submitting a Building Regulation application.
These schemes cover the following works:
- Replacement windows - for further details see Replacement Windows Guidance Note (PDF, 33Kb)
- Installation of gas or oil fired burning appliances
- Electrical installations
You should always ensure that if your installer is not registered under the competent person scheme, then a Building Regulation application is made to your Local Authority.
The self-certification schemes include:
Replacement Windows and doors
Combustion Appliances
Electrical Safety in Dwellings – Full Competence Schemes (Part P)
Electrical Safety in Dwellings – Defined Competence Schemes (Part P) These schemes are designed primarily for those who carry out electrical installation work as a part of their primary work activities – for example, gas installations, plumbing, kitchen or bathroom fitting, heating installations, security systems etc.
