Employing an agent, architect or building contractor
Unless you are experienced in construction you may need to get some professional advice when making your building regulation application. There are a number of ways of obtaining this including:
- Appointing an architect/technician or building surveyor: these will prepare drawings and designs for your proposal, obtain the necessary Approvals and if required they will also help you to find a suitable builder and manage the project for you.
- Appointing a design and build company: these companies offer a one-stop shop for construction projects; their design department will prepare the necessary drawings and obtain the necessary Approvals and their construction departments will translate these drawings into reality.
- Using an experienced builder: some builders have experience in carrying out domestic projects and may be able to offer you a package similar to the design and build companies.
Suffolk Trusted Trader scheme
The council is not able to recommend contractors and do not hold any approved contractor lists, however Suffolk Trading Standards run a countywide scheme predominately aimed to help protect the public from rogue traders and support local businesses. Trading standards checks are carried out on traders before they can be taken on as a member, once the trader is accepted Trading Standards accredit them to members of the public who require a trader.
To search for a trader, if you can recommend a reliable and trustworthy trader, or if you are a Suffolk trader who would like to apply, visit the Suffolk Trusted Trader website at www.suffolk.gov.uk/trustedtrader. |
