The adopted Local Plan for Babergh:
The plan was formally adopted, see downloadable notice of adoption of a plan (PDF, 7Kb), by the Council on Thursday 1st June 2006 and became operative for development control purposes from that date. The final published paper version of the Babergh Local Plan Alteration No. 2 (2006) is now available to purchase. An interactive CD version of the Plan is also available to purchase. (See below for details).
For the purposes of the regulations, the adopted Babergh Local Plan Alteration No. 2 (2006) is also provided as a website version, as set out below.
Babergh Local Plan Alteration No. 2 (2006) - Document (Including Text and Maps)
The Documents that form the adopted Babergh Local Plan can be viewed here.
Please note that the Local Plan covers the period 2006 – 2016, although it will be replaced before the official expiry date. There have recently been important and wide ranging changes to the planning system. As part of these changes the Council will not produce further Local Plans in future. Instead, the Council is to produce a ‘Local Development Framework’, which will perform a similar type of purpose as the Local Plan.
Work on documents forming part of our first Local Development Framework (LDF) is underway. The programme for this is set out in the Council’s current Local Development Scheme (LDS). Please see the LDF pages (link above) to view the Council’s current LDS.
Important update - revised list of Local Plan Planning Policies applies from 2nd June 2009
In order to ensure continuing planning policy coverage during the transition from the adopted Babergh Local Plan (2006) to the new Babergh Development Framework (BDF), the Council applied to the Secretary of State (GO-East) to 'save' the majority of policies contained in the Babergh Local Plan Alteration No. 2 until such time as the new Local Development Framework is adopted.
Confirmation has been received from the Secretary of State that most of the policies contained in the current adopted Babergh Local Plan will be 'saved' (and thereby remain in place) whilst others will expire on 2nd June 2009. This confirmation is in the form of a 'Direction under paragraph 1(3) of schedule 8 to the planning and compulsory purchase act 2004 policies contained in Babergh Local Plan Alteration No.2 Adopted June 2006'.
