Proposed works to trees

Summary

Information about carrying out work on trees with preservation orders on them, and trees in conservation areas.


Many trees are protected by Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs).  Felling or other removal of such trees or the carrying out of other works to them without the prior consent of the Council is an offence, although there are exceptions relating to trees which are dead, dying or dangerous.  Click on the link below to find out more about TPO's and to obtain an application form:

Trees growing in Conservation Areas are also protected. Anyone proposing to cut down, top, lop or uproot or wilfully damage or destroy a tree in a Conservation Area is required to give six weeks written Notice of Intent to Babergh District Council before the work is carried out.
